About Stucco

Introduction to Stucco

Stucco is a type of plastering material that is mostly used on the exterior parts of structures. It is often associated with plaster having almost the same composition. The only significant difference is the location where they are used. Both materials are primarily made of lime, sand and water, but plaster is often used inside and stucco outside. [Read more…]

STUCCO in Wester Europe

Even though the exact origin of stucco is not really in Western Europe, the plastering technique can be considered a product of the region. Some form of plaster was used in Malta and Greece during ancient times, but it was not until the rise of the Roman Empire that the earliest form of what we know today as stucco was first used. Stucco was found to have been heavily used by the Roman City of Pompeii. After the fall of the Rom [Read more…]

How does polished Plaster work?

  1. A mixture of water, lime and portland cement has to be prepared on site as it has dries up quickly. Ready-made mixes that require only water to be added are also available in home decoration stockists. These are mixed using a drill with a mixing paddle or a mixing machine.
  2. The decorator then applies plaster to a prepared base layer, which is nowadays a plasterboard, coat after a coat, using a trowel, a hawk, and a float. Scrimming tape and angle beading need to be already in place when this job is done.
  3. Final coat is the most important and most of attention should be paid to making it as smooth as possible. Other decorative finishes such as stucco, polished plaster, textures plaster (artex) are applied to it.

Why polished plaster?

Durable, energy efficient and fire-proof matierial, easy to apply and requires no maintenance. Once applied, it lasts for many years. External stucco is weatherproof, internal plasters are mold and mildew resistant.

What maintenance does Microcement require?

This material is very easy to maintain, since it cannot be stained if the sealing and waterproofing process has been carried out correctly. However, it is necessary to perform periodic maintenance in order to guarantee greater durability and better amortization of its aesthetic properties.
Simply cleaning the surface with water and neutral soap is enough, but if the Microcemento® is placed on the floor the key is to renew the protective layer of the material by applying self-polished waxes diluted in water.

What is the difference between micro-cement and polished concrete?

While Microcemento® is a thin coating (approximately 2 and 3 millimeters), polished concrete requires a thickness of between 5 and 7 centimeters. This means that the structural weight of Microcemento® is significantly lower than that of the polished concrete.
In addition, polished concrete requires expansion joints, a feature that Microcemento® does not share. Also, Microcemento® can be placed both vertically and horizontally without a problem.
Although the application of micro-cement started a little over a decade ago, in recent years its use has spread widely throughout the world. This is why we believe that Microcemento® is the best choice for those who need to do any kind of renovation work.

Microcement is a decorative, composite coating based on cement, water-based resins, additives and mineral pigments.
It is an ideal material for both exterior and interior surfaces; applicable in floors, walls and ceilings… And the best thing is that it does not need joints! So, therefore, it makes cleaning and maintenance very easy.

We can offers you a wide range of possibilities and finishes, where the limitations are applied by you. It stamps your rooms with a unique and personal character, thanks to the different textures (thick, medium or fine), the great variety of colours, the different varnish finishes (matte, satin or gloss), or metallic-effect paints and glazes. Its handcrafted application makes the result of each job or project still more unique and special… Unrepeatable, because no two surfaces will be the same.

On what supports can microcement be applied?

Microcement can be applied to almost any type of support: cement mortar, self-levelling, terrazzo, marble, tile, plasterboard-Pladur or plaster, on both vertical and horizontal surfaces in interior and exterior spaces.
Never apply on natural wood or supports made of various sections which will distend differently.
The support must be consolidated and stable.
The surface must be dry and free of dust or grease.
The planimetry of the support will determine the final result

What is the strength and hardness of microcement?

Despite its lack of thickness, one of this material’s most significant properties is its high resistance and hardness; Microdeck and Microstone can even be used in areas of high traffic.
